Yvonne and Bart
Yvonne and Bart, 1996

Our Goal is to save lives and families by alerting the public to the defective and dangerous seatbelt buckle known as the "Generation 3" or Gen seat belt buckle installed in many Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep products, and to urge DaimlerChrysler Corp. to replace these belts with safer alternatives.

To date, we are aware of 14 deaths and 21 serious injuries resulting from a Gen3 seatbelt coming unlatched during an accident - just when the driver or passenger was relying on it to keep them safe. Among the latest to die are two members of a Houston family, along with a child who is now paralyzed. We must alert the public and keep more families from suffering this kind of devastating tragedy!

Coalition President: Yvonne Moran, Corpus Christi, TX. Yvonne's husband, Bart, was killed in December, 1996, when the seat belt of his new 1997 Dodge Caravan came unlatched during a low-speed roll-over.

Other Actions You Can Take

  • Contact your dealer and ask him to replace your seat belts with the Gen4 design. Ask to make an official complaint.
  • Contact DaimlerChrysler at www.DaimlerChrysler.com, or call 1-800-992-1997.
  • Tell your friends. You may help save their lives, too.

Congratulations, You have completed all the action steps that will help us get the Gen3 recalled! But one last thing. Please let us know if you sent a complaint to NHTSA or a dealer with just a quick report through info@unsafebelts.com. (give us your name so we know it's you). And, let us know what your dealer had to say. We will share helpful tips and information with other members. THANK YOU!
